German Sparkassen Stiftung South East Asia

German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) is the development-policy arm of the German Sparkassen Finance Group. It promotes financial institutions that foster economic and social development by enabling sustainable access to financial products and services. This helps to create jobs, generate income and to fight poverty.

Orienting their strategy to low and middle-income earners and MSME benefits our local partner institutions: providing services to these customer groups has proven to be a viable business model. Furthermore, these institutions help to stabilize the domestic financial sector and promote the country’s sustainable economic development.

The work of DSIK is in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations. We implement projects across the entire range of banking activities. Our focus, however, is on six thematic areas designed to foster financial inclusion: Green Finance, Rural Finance, MSME Finance, Institution Building for MFIs, Financial Literacy and Capacity Development for banking staff and students.

With the Green Finance Compass and the Risk Radar, DSIK has two tried-and-tested tools at its disposal. The Green Finance Compass supports systematic stocktaking, project planning and progress monitoring of Green Finance implementation in banks and MFIs. Since 2017, the tool has been used almost 400 times in Germany and worldwide. The Risk Radar generates information on ESG and climate risks at sector and borrower level, from inventory to action planning and risk controlling. The tool was implemented almost 100 times.
